Project
The Fiumelatte landslide, located along SP72 near Varenna (Province of Lecco), is a clear example of the hydrogeological instability affecting approximately 90% of Italian municipalities. This issue has been exacerbated by increasingly extreme weather events and ongoing land consumption. In May 2023, a collapse damaged the artificial tunnel, disrupting local connections. Field S.r.l. designed an advanced monitoring system for the rock face, utilizing wireless accelerometers and data acquisition units for vibration detection and dynamic analysis of the rock wall’s condition.
Intervention
Field S.r.l. implemented a dynamic monitoring system through the installation of 8 tri-axial wireless accelerometers capable of detecting vibrations in three dimensions. Positioned at critical points along the rock face, these accelerometers measure vertical and horizontal accelerations, allowing for the identification of anomalous movements and critical frequencies. The collected data is transmitted in real time to a gateway, processed, and made available to the client via the AIDA IoT web platform. The system is configured to generate immediate warning alerts if pre-set vibration thresholds are exceeded.
Results
The dynamic monitoring system ensures continuous and in-depth assessment of the rock face’s conditions. The AIDA IoT platform enables the client to remotely visualize and analyze data, configure customized alarms, and prevent critical situations with efficient and timely management.
