Monitoring of Railway Infrastructure Near Reggio Emilia

Project

The extension of State Road No. 9 “Northern Bypass of Reggio Emilia” required advanced monitoring of the railway infrastructure in the interference areas between underpasses ST03 (Pieve Modolena) and ST05 (Milan-Bologna railway). This intervention ensured railway traffic safety during consolidation, excavation, and monolith pushing operations while preserving the regular operation of a strategic rail transport route in Italy.

Intervention

Field S.r.l. installed an advanced track monitoring system using Sisgeo RDS inclinometric sensors for railway applications and topographic prisms. Continuous measurements are acquired through Sisgeo OMNIAlog data loggers and Leica robotic total stations. Data management is performed via the AIDA IoT platform, which enables real-time alerts and remote monitoring for constant and effective infrastructure supervision.

Results

Since January 2023, the system has provided continuous and precise monitoring of track deformations, reducing surveillance costs and improving train traffic safety. The real-time processed data enables the tracking of structural conditions, optimizing maintenance interventions and ensuring the correct functionality of railway infrastructure.
